Dear All,
And then suddenly it was autumn, overnight and immediately! I can’t believe that the last time I wrote to you about what’s happening in my world, days were still long, afternoons were still relatively sunny, and nights didn’t require woolen bed socks and flannel knickers!! And then last Wednesday …the big chill started. Perfect excuse to go shopping for warm clothing and to eat chocolate, but did it have to be so sudden!!
September saw me judging, reading and leading workshops as part of the Elmbridge Literature Festival, down in Walton-on-Thames, which was great fun, especially as there was a children’s element to the festival. And it’s really true that, given the chance, children can think out of the box of the creative imagination much more readily than adults. That being said, there was some terrific talent on display during the festival, and I had a great time there. All this, and I got paid….how cool is that!
Anyway with the nights drawing in, it’s a good excuse to head on down to the events I’ve got lined up for October.
First of all, LOOSE MUSE will be happening on Wednesday 10th October, at the Poetry Café, 22 Betterton Street, London WC2 (closest tube = Covent Garden). This is
As I’m going to be on holiday in Uzbekistan (!), October’s Loose Muse will be guest hosted by fellow poet Naomi Woddis, who will be presenting members of the Living Fruits Writers programme. Naomi is a poet, performer, blogger and fiction writer, who has performed at poetry events all over
And then there’s ANGEL POETRY, this month on the third not the second Thursday of the month) on Thursday 18th October, kicking off at 7.00 p.m. This monthly poetry reading is at Borders Bookshop at the Angel in the N1 Centre Parkfield Street, London N1 – the shopping mall opposite Angel tube station. This month we have three features – Gill Andrews, taking time off from her job as a lawyer to feature at Angel Poetry for the first time with her perceptive and finely crafted work; the fantastic Maria Gregoria bringing you a sensitive blend of words combining the heat of Manila with the strength and wit of New York and doing a great job; and last but absolutely not least the widely published
Both these nights are growing in popularity, so come along and share the passion and the joy.
Also, if you’re anywhere near Bristol later this month, why not go and check out Say It Loud Production’s “SLAVE SHIP” by Amiri Baraka, followed by the play “LAND” by Dr Edson Burton. Both explore the issues of slavery with fantastic truth and honesty. There will also be the chance to meet Amiri Baraka, who is flying from the

PPS: Please also note, those of you who call me at work about things poetical, that my workmates love me dearly but aren’t my secretarial team, so please be courteous when you’re leaving messages. Then I don’t get told off that poets are rude! Thanks for this – I really appreciate it.
