Dear All,

I can hardly believe that less than three week’s ago I was crossing the Kazil Kum Desert in Uzbekistan, having the most extraordinary and spectacular holiday of my life.  Samarkand was everything that I had ever dreamed it would be – a gracious, elegant town bursting with ancient monuments and the romance of the Silk Road.  Can’t wait to go again, hopefully next spring, but in the meantime watch this space for the slender selection of Uzbekistan poems that may well be sliding out of my pen over the next few weeks, and find themselves into my readings.

By the time you read this, my favourite festival on the calendar (Hallowe’en) will be over, all the pumpkins will have been eaten, all the hauntings will have been completed, and we’ll be well and truly ghouled out for another year.  At least that what should have happened.  For those of a less nervous disposition, November’s pretty action packed, so why not check out some of the following:

First of all I’m doing a Writing and Performing Poetry workshop as part of a one-day festival of poetry workshops and readings organized by Shorelink Community Writers on Saturday, 3rd November.  The day starts at 10.00 a.m. with workshops taking place all day long and a reading in the evening at Faraday House, 48-51 Old Gloucester Street, Holborn WC1.  The workshop I’ll be leading starts at 10.30 and lasts until around 12.30, and should be incredibly enjoyable.  For more information, contact Ashley Jordan, who’s organizing the whole festival at Ashley@ashleyjordan.wanadoo.co.uk

Then on Thursday November 8th  we have ANGEL POETRY, kicking off as usual at 7.00 p.m.  This monthly poetry reading is at Borders Bookshop at the Angel in the N1 Centre Parkfield Street, London N1 – the shopping mall opposite Angel tube station.    We again have three features – Colin Kelly – all the way from Atlanta, Georgia, sharing his unique observations on everything from Kate Bush to life in 21st century America; James O’Nuanain combining his razor-sharp wit with a poignant love of life, literature and natural silence; and Graham Buchan whose viral poetry infects you with its passion and zeal.  It’s a free event that also includes an open mike …all poets welcome, just sign up on the night or e me at agnes.meadows@discover.org.uk before if you want a floor spot.

On Saturday November 10th I’m leading another Writing and Performing workshop on the general theme of Identity with the Chobham Writers Group, which is taking place at the Chobham Arts Centre from 2.00-5.00 p.m. with a chance to share work afterwards.  For more details please contact Sally Blackmore on Sally.blackmore@gmail.com

And finally on Wednesday 14th November there’s LOOSE MUSE at the Poetry Café, 22 Betterton Street, London WC2 (closest tube = Covent Garden).  This is London’s only regular event for women writers of all genres, with a warm and wonderful open mike sharing session, plus two featured writers each month.  November’s features are the award-winning poet, journalist, and writer Jaqueline Saphra whose work combines sharp observation of life in all its facets with a sardonic humour threaded through her words to make you smile.  And we also platform the wonderful Dzifa Benson, Caribbean poet, journalist and performer taking us to places we didn’t know that poetry could go and reeling us in with the power of her words.  This promises to be another fantastic night, with two exceptionally talented writers both looking at words and life from different aspects, and sharing their highs and lows.  The night starts at 8.00 p.m -  £5.00/£3.00 concs.  With some open mike readings from the floor to share and explore work.

Both Loose Muse and Angel Poetry are growing in popularity, so come along and share the passion and the joy.

Love, always
