LOOSE MUSE & ANGEL POETRY

Dear All,

Hope you all had a truly fabulous and creative summer, and that you are all not only have a truck load of wonderful new work to share with us, but that you’re also gasping for the brilliant writers and poets I’ve got lined up over the next few weeks.

First of all, if any of you are around, please come and check me out at the Poetry Shack next Tuesday, 11th September, when I’m on the bill for this cornucopia of poetic delights hosted by Brett Van Toen.   It’s a great night of poetry at The Old Crown, 33 New Oxford Street, WC1 (nearest tube station Tottenham Court Rd), kick off  7.30 for 8.00 p.m. £5 with short floor spots also welcome.  I’ve got a few new pieces I’d like to test out on you guys, so come along and here me do some strutting.

And then there’s LOOSE MUSE will be happening on Wednesday 12th September, at the Poetry Café, 22 Betterton Street, London WC2 (closest tube = Covent Garden).  This is London’s only regular event for women writers of all genres, which this Autumn celebrates its’ second birthday (hard to believe, but fabulously true!).

Generally Loose Muse has two featured women writers, but we’re opening the Autumn season with “Women of Persia”, a celebration of some of Iran’s bravest and most celebrated women writers, by three brilliant contemporary Iranian women writers and performers.  SOHEILA GHODSTINAT, poet, writer and actor, heads the cast of three, working with art designer MARYAM HASHEMI and actress PARVANEH  SOLATANI.  In “Women of Persia they will be sharing the work of poet Tahereh Ghoratolane (1823-1850), poet, writer and filmmaker Forough Farrokhzad (1935-1967), and living writer Shahrnush Parsipur – in a unique attempt to bridge the gap between East and West, borrowing creative tools from both worlds.

This promises to be a fantastic night, bringing you a rare insight into this trio of courageous women writers who certainly suffered for their art, but not in silence.  The night starts at 8.00 p.m -  £5.00/£3.00 concs.  With some open mike readings from the floor to share and explore work.

And then starting up again for the Autumn and also celebrating its second birthday, there’s ANGEL POETRY, on Thursday 13th September, kicking off at 7.00 p.m.   This monthly poetry reading is at Borders Bookshop at the Angel in the N1 Centre Parkfield Street, London N1 – the shopping mall opposite Angel tube station.    This month’s features are the Byronic JAMES BYRNE, international poet and editor of ‘The Wolf’ Poetry Magazine, sharing some of his best loved, finely tuned poetry – if you don’t love his work, you’re half dead!  And we also have the fabulous SANDEEP PARMA, a poet of exquisite subtlety and a rare perception sharing her velvet words of love and life with us all.   It’s a free event that also includes an open mike …all poets welcome, just sign up on the night or e me at agnes.meadows@discover.org.uk before if you want a floor spot.

Both these nights are growing in popularity, so come along and share the passion and the joy.

Love, always
