LOOSE MUSE, ANGEL POETRY & OTHER STUFF

Hi there,

Just a reminder that over the next week or so in November there are several amazing gigs happening, that will hopefully inspire your poetic interest.

First, if any of you want to buy a copy of the Poetry for Lebanon Book of Poetry, in which many of you have a poem, please do let me know.  There are still copies left, available for £5.00 + 75p p&p – send your cheques (made payable to MAP) to me c/o 1 Bridge Terrace, Stratford, London E15 4BG, and I’ll send you your very own volume by return.  There’s some really great stuff in the book….well worth a fiver.

On Wednesday 8th November, I have LOOSE MUSE, a  monthly event for women writers of all genres on Wednesday, 8.00-10.00 p.m @ The Poetry Café, 22 Betterton Street, London WC2 (Covent Garden tube) £5.00/£3.00 concs.  This month, instead of two featured writers, I have the truly wonderful LUCY ENGLISH, who is gracing us with her presence all the way from Bristol.  International poet, novelist, and organizer of the UK’s first Conference on SLAM Poetry at Bath Space University, Lucy’s work blends the cutting edge of literary skill with poignancy, laugher, and wry observation.   And we’ll have an extra large sprinkling of open mike readings from the floor to share and explore work - sign up for open mike 7.30-8.00 p.m.

On Thursday 9th November  there is ANGEL POETRY, a free event @  Borders Bookstore, N1 Centre, 26 Parkfield Street, London N1 (the shopping mall opposite Angel tube),at 6.45-8.15 p.m.   Features this month are leader of the surreal, Jason King whose dreamlike poetry takes you to places you didn’t know you wanted to go to and can’t forget once you’ve been there, PLUS the sharp and funny Joshua Idehen, whose work will make you smile and wonder as he touches on truth and humour in his own inimitable way. And of course, we have floor spots available if you want to share your own stuff with us all – sign up with me from around 6.30 p.m.

I’m also going to be taking part in a “Remembering Falujah” benefit at the Poetry Café on Friday 10th November.  It’s being organized by Anne Cooper, and I believe the starting time is around 7.30 p.m., with entry probably about £5.00.  Sorry to be so vague, but I’ve not been told much, other than the fact that it’s happening, and that it’s at the Poetry Café, with a great crowd of poets and performers.  Come along and check it out.

And then at the end of the month I’ll be running workshops and a performance night as part of the Elmbridge Literature Festival. The Poetry Writing & Performing workshops have the central theme of Journeys, and will be on Saturday 18 November (10.00 a.m & 2.00 p.m.) and Sunday 19 November (10.00 a.m.), with the “Journeys Show” the evening of the 19th at 7.30 pm.  Workshops and show will be at the Riverhouse Barn, Manor Road, Walton-on-Thames KT12 2PF  The workshops are £10/£8 concs, but the show is free. So if you’re in that area, why not take part. Call 01932-253-3554 for more information, or to make a booking.

Spread the Word has also asked me to let you know that they have Bad Girl Behaviour fiction writing workshops exploring female anti-heroes in fiction on 17th November, at Lower Nettlefold Hall, 1 Norwood High Street, W. Norwood, SE27 9JX: Workshop with Maya Chowdhry at 2.00 p.m. (£15), and a discussion of the representation of women in contemporary fiction at 6.00 p.m. (£4.00). For info call 020-7735-3111 or log on to www.spreadtheword.org.uk

As always, do come along and share the passion and the joy.  It would be wonderful to see you at  these events.  Call me if you need to on my landline 0207-833-5828.

Love –

Agnes
