In 2003, Bringing The House Down changed the the face and image of performance poetry in the UK. In one night the show dispelled the notion that poetry was "small time" and couldn't pull audiences. Almost 500 people lined up to see Jerry Quickley, Zena Edwards, Ainsley Burrows, Jive Poetic, Mahogany Browne, Taalam Acey and Nii Ayikwei Parkes at the Deptford Albany; only 350 got in, and every single one of them had a life marking experience. Poetry delivered like takeaway; hot, spicy, quick and filling.

The show continued its success in 2004 with another packed Albany Theatre experience featuring Zena Edwards, Taalam Acey and host Nii Ayikwei Parkes from 2003, alongside new recruits Roger Robinson and Gemma Weekes as well as debutants phaze and natasha - two young writers who had been picked for exhibiting talent and dedication during the year.

This year the event is a full collaboration between the Albany and LSC and has become a touring festival. We'll be working with a range of young authors across the UK, all of whom will have master classes with out headline act this year Da Boogieman, as well as a range of stellar established and emerging spoken word artists. Don't miss out this year!
